Rockefeller Center is a complex of 19 commercial buildings occupying three Midtown blocks, developed between 1930 and 1939 by the Rockefeller family and designed by a team led by Raymond Hood. The Art Deco sculpture program, the seasonal ice rink, Radio City Music Hall, and the Top of the Rock observatory make it one of New York's most frequented civic spaces — a room for a city that otherwise has precious few of them.
